Makeup Menu- November 2015

Lately I've noticed that I've been reaching for the same makeup items over and over again. A really simple look with gold eyes, a nude lip and pink cheeks. I thought, why not share it? This look is so easy and quick but looks pulled together and nice as well.
The Body Shop Tea Tree Flawless BB Cream - 01 // Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Concealer - 01 light // Catrice Camouflage Cream - 010 Ivory // Etos Full Coverage Concealer Stick - Porcelain
This is the base I've been wearing lately. Some bb-cream with concealer. I know it looks like a lot for just the base but I use the concealers for different purposes. I use the Maybelline one to cover up red areas on my cheeks because at the moment it's way too dark to cover up my under eye circles, which is where I use to use it for. Under my eyes I know use the stick from Etos but I'm not super happy with this. The porcelain shade is super light but the stick is definitely meant for spots on your face because it's a little bit too dry to use under the eyes. And finally I touch up the rest that I need to with the camouflage cream by Catrice. Essence Cinderella Blush- 01 So This Is Love // Catrice Transparent Mattifying Powder // Face Form Contouring And Blush Palette - 372 Fair // TheBalm Mary-Lou Manizer
Moving on to the rest of my face. I apply a light layer of transparent powder and then I start to contour a little bit. I apply the bronzer from the Sleek palette to the hollows of my cheeks and my temples and the highlighter by TheBalm to the highest point of my cheeks. Finally I finish it of with a dewy pink blush. Catrice Eyebrow Set // Essence Lash & Brow Gel Mascara // Max Factor Excess Shimmer - 020 Copper // Essence I <3 Nude Eyeshadow - 01 Vanilla Sugar // Catrice Kohl Kajal - 01 Black // Catrice Glam & Doll Volume Mascara
Then it's time for my brows and eyes. I use a powder and a clear brow gel for my brows, these two products are the ones I've been using for a long time now and they're the cheapest best products so no need to change it up here. On my eyes I've been wearing a golden coppery shade by Max Factor, this is a gel eyeshadow so I just apply it with my fingers and blend it out with a fluffy brush. To highlight my brow bone and inner corner with a vanilla shade by Essence and apply some kohl to my upper water line. The last step to my eyes is obviously mascara and lately I've been using my favourite drugstore one by Catrice again. I still haven't found a mascara under €5 that's better than this one. Clinique Lip Colour + Primer - 05 Melon Pop // Catrice Ultimate Stay Lipstick - 070 Plum & Base // Essence Longlasting Nude Lipstick - 05 Cool Nude // L'Oréal Collection Exclusive - Doutzen's Delicate Rose
These are the four lipsticks that have been in my makeup bag lately. On the photo's in this post I'm wearing the Essence one which is my favourite nude and favourite lipstick at the moment. I've also been loving the darker plum shade from Catrice and the very bright pink shade by L'Oréal. Last but not least is the melon shade by Clinique, one of my go to lipsticks but I've been wearing it less lately because it doesn't go with my berry/pink autumnal blushes.

Max Factor Excess Shimmer

Today's post is all about a product I bought last summer but I never started using it properly. I shot some photos back then and swatched it but that's all that I did with it. Lately I've been going through my makeup collection and trying some products that I've been neglecting and this was one of them. I used it a few times since then and I'm really impressed. The product is by Max Factor and this is a cream eyeshadow product. A while ago these eyeshadows were all over the internet so you might know them already, the excess shimmer eyeshadows. I have the shade Copper which is a warm taupe/copper shade with a golden sheen, a shade that's right up my alley. The texture of this product is really weird, not like other cream eyeshadows I own. I cannot really describe it but it's kind of like a mousse gel combination. I don't know for sure what I think of this texture and I still prefer normal powder eyeshadows but overall it's nice and the shadow doesn't crease. The color is what I'm really loving lately. The gorgeous golden coppery shade works great with my eye colour. I also love how eye it is to wear this shadow, I can just apply it with my finger, blend it out with a fluffy brush and my eyelook is done. Perfect for days that I'm running late but still want some vavavoom on my eyelids. If you're looking for a golden copper shade that's easy to wear and looks gorgeous on it's own as well. This is definitely a shadow for you. On Sunday I'm going to show you the look I've been wearing a lot lately and in the eyeshadow I'm wearing in that one is this Max Factor one.

You can buy the Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eyeshadows for €12,99 at the drugstore.

Ellie Goulding - Delirium

It's kind of funny that when I'm writing this post, I'm listening to the new Adele album (which I'm obsessed with) but writing about an album I really liked and didn't expected to like. I cannot say I'm the biggest Ellie Goulding fan, her only song that I really liked was 'Love Me Like You Do' but for the rest, mweh I wasn't into it. lately I've been really into her new album; 'Delirium' though.
It's starts with an intro songs that then flows into the first actual song on the album, aftertaste. A song that I've been loving lately and was able sing along with really quickly. The third song on the album, 'Keep On Dancin' is a bit weird but the beat and whistle in it just make me move in my chair, even though it's not a typical dance song. I love it. The next song is 'On My Mind', a song that had to grow on me but now that I know the lyrics you'll find me lip syncing behind my laptop with the necessary head and arm movements.
I discovered that I liked this album when I was writing code (html & css) for school so the sixth song 'Codes' has a double meaning to it for me. It's not about that type of code but now I cannot listen to this song without thinking about html and school. Not a bad thing because I still like the song, just funny how I sometimes connect two completely unrelated things to each other that way.
And then, the eight song on the album starts and I song along out loud (and very off key of course).
I'll let you set the pace
Cause I'm not thinking straight
My head spinning around I can't see clear no more.
What are you waiting for?
And then the infamous line 'Love me like you do, love me like you do' several times. Definateley one of my favourite songs of this album.
This album has definitely been one of my favourites from November and it has turned me in an Ellie Goulding lover, very curious to see how she will continue and what her next album will sound like. For now I go back to listening to Adele and working on my study.

What is an album you're loving at the moment?

Autumn, the season that's the best looking

I was never the biggest autumn fan, autumn is the season before winter, autumn means it will get colder. It means that winter is coming. I know we don't have it that bad here in the Netherlands but let me tell you, winter in Holland can be really cold. But if you forget that for a moment or just except that winter will come, you'll learn to appreciate autumn's beauty. If the seasons would have a beauty pageant, autumn would win. Spring would be a good second but nothing beats the colours of autumn trees. The colours in autumn are definitely one of the best nature has to offer. From red to orange to yellow and the last specks of green. An autumnal rainbow in the trees. ..

H&M High Impact Eye Colour: The Verdict

As promised, today I have my final verdict on the H&M High Impact Eye Colour shadows for you. At the moment I own four shadows, three metallic ones and a matte shade. Three neutral shades and one bright one so I think I can give you quite a good review of them.
  • Candied Almond matte almond/chesnut brown
  • Shiitake satin finish pale shimmery brown
  • Sahara Dawn warm metallic burgundy
  • Baci Di Dama warm metallic gold
After trying them out thoroughly I can honestly say that I'm very impressed with these eyeshadows. The texture is creamy and buttery and every shade applies and blends very well. The pigmentation and colour range is also gorgeous. Except Sahara Dawn the shades I got are all neutrals and shades I'd wear every day but H&M also sells more 'out there'-shades like blues and green which I really want to try now after being so impressed with these.
There is one thing I wish was different though, the packaging. It looks gorgeous but feels very cheap (and doesn't photograph well because of the gold metallic lid, say hi to me in the first photo). Also I'm not a huge fan of mono's I really want a palette in which I could put these shadows because that would be perfect. That's just so much easier to store instead of these mono's that take up way to much space and all look the same in my drawer.
The shade I've been wearing most is Baci Di Dama, the gold shade. I love this one because I feel like it really complements my greenish eyes. It's a gorgeous neutral shade that looks amazing on its own. I really like combining it with a berry toned lipstick and that for me, is the perfect easy autumn look.
Other items I'm wearing:

H&M Pure Radiance Powder Blusher Deep Brown review

And this is the look I made with the other shadows. I started by blending Candied Almond in the crease. Then I applied Shiitake to the inner third of my lid and Sahara Dawn to the outer part. Blended it all together and to finish the eyeshadows I applied Candied Almond to my lower lashline, I added some liner and mascara and voila, a beautiful autumnal look.

Some Changes

I've you've visited my blog today you might have noticed some weird things. The design changed several times and some things didn't work properly anymore. This was because I was doing some background work today. I was applying a new template to my blog and changing a lot in the code. For those of you that don't know, I study communication & multimedia design. One aspect of that study is learning how to code and design. I'm not good enough at coding to make a new template myself so I went online, searched for a free template and changed it so I liked it. I'm still not super happy with it so I'll be playing around with it some more. That powered by blogger thing in my top header is bothering me way to much so please let me know if you can help me move it to the bottom of the page. I also want a little bit less white space on the top so that is another thing will happen soon. For now I'm happy with the new design, but the designer in me really want to make something that's truly my own. Unfortunately making a template for blogger is really hard and I just don't have the time to dive into that.

Let me know what you think of the new look of Flowers Instead of Lemons and if you have any tips please write them in the comment section below, they're more then welcome.

H&M Sahara Dawn & Baci Di Dama High Impact Eye Colour

Yet another H&M review today, one of the last for a while tough I promise. I'll do a post  with all the eye shadows I got so that you can see them all next to each other, don't know thought that would be fun to do. Today I'm showing you two shadows called Sahara Dawn en Baci Di Dama, which I both got because of Lilly Pebbles.
Sahara Dawn is a purple burgundy shade which is perfect for this time of the year, I'm in love with it. The other shade is called Baci Di Dama and this is a shimmery gold shade that's just a staple for your collection. Two gorgeous shades that really complement each other, I could make a beautiful autumnal looks with these two shades. So far I haven't shown you how the H&M eyeshadows on my eyes though. I'm going to do that in another post where I'll be making to looks with the four shadows I bought so stay tuned for that.

You can buy the H&M High Impact Eye Colour for €5,99 at H&M stores that stock the beauty line.

H&M Shitake High Impact Eye Colour

The first time I went into H&M beauty I was really overwhelmed and didn't purchase anything. The second time was no different but after I read some reviews, the third time I finally bought something. The product I purchased was one of the 'High Impact Eye Colour', at first I wanted to go for the eyeshadow palette but after some mixed reviews on that I went for this mono which got much better reviews online (after that third time I did do multiple other shops at H&M beauty haha). H&M's new beauty line has beautiful packaging and the mono eyeshadows are definitely not an exception. The packaging is gorgeous and it's definitely a product that stands out in my stash. The shadows inside also looks gorgeous. Shiitake is a gorgeous shade and it's almost impossible to describe so let's just say this is a shimmery shiitake shade (which btw is a type of mushroom if you didn't know). The swatch in this photo doesn't do this shadow justice so I'll do another post in which I show you all the eyeshadows I bought (yes I bought some more after making photos of this one).

H&M Deep Brown Blusher

Imagine me, standing in front of the H&M Beauty blush section, trying to decide what blush to buy. Should I go for one of the pink shades? The problem is, I already have a lot of pink blushes. Should I go for a more purple shade? But I don't really wear purple blushes that often. After standing there, swatching and doubting (or twijfelen as we say in Dutch), I grabbed this brown blush. I don't anything similar and I think I'll get a lot of use out of a neutral shade like this. Problem solved, I bought a blush called 'Deep Brown'.
The blushes from H&M come in hexagon-shaped packaging, something I haven't seen before. Although I like the shape and look, when I'm holding it feels quite cheap because it's so light and made out of plastic.
As you can see this blush is not deep brown, it definitely has a pink undertone which makes it way more wearable for me. Still it's brown enough to use as a subtle contour on my pale skin tone. I have to be careful if I contour with this though, the pink undertone and shimmer make it more of a blush than a bronzer and therefore you cannot do a massive party contour with it. For some subtle everyday contouring this works great on my skin tone.
Here I contoured a little bit with the blush and I really like the result, really natural but still sculpted.
I'm very happy with my choice, I wasn't completely sure but I made the right choice. However there's a new problem now, I want more H&M blushes. The pigmentation of this shade is great, the colour is beautiful and the apply gorgeous. Maybe I'm going to buy yet another pink blush...

You can buy the H&M Deep Brown Pure Radiance Powder Blusher for €7,99 at H&M stores that stock H&M Beauty.

I went to H&M beauty and I did some damage

Well I think the title of this post says it all. I could not contain myself when I spotted the H&M beauty department and bought quite some stuff. A while ago I spotted the new H&M store in Utrecht (one of the biggest in the Netherlands yass) and a few weeks ago I saw they sold the new H&M beauty line! I have to travel through Utrecht every single day (I study in Amsterdam) and this H&M has been the place where I've been spending my time when waiting for the bus or train. Over the past two or three weeks I've been buying quite a few H&M beauty products and I thought I'd give you a heads up about the reviews that are coming on my blog. On the photo above this post you can see a few of the products I got but there's definitely more. After trying the products a few times my first opinion is really positive but for more in depth reviews of the products, you'll have to come back later...

Stay tuned,

Kiko Metallic Shine Eyeshadow

I really hope this eyeshadow is still available as I review comes online because it's part of a limited edition. I'm talking about the Kiko Metallic Shine Eyeshadow that is part of the Rebel Romantic limited edition. A collection that looks amazing and has amazing products in it.
The shade I picked up is a mossy green one called Charming Sage and it's a shade that I read about on a blog and couldn't wait to buy. I don't remember which blog I read it on but she said 'pick this up!' so I did.
A creamy powder eyeshadow with a metallic finish. The dense yet supple texture glides on easily and adheres perfectly to the eyelids for an instant colour payoff. The formula's waxes and oils strengthen the pearls and pigments in the eyeshadow, ensuring a long-lasting wear. It's delicate and silky to the touch. The metallic finish for each of the vivid and radiant tints punctuates your eyes.

I made this winged look with the eyeshadow and it's amazing. The pigmentation is great and the color is stunning, I love it! I don't own a lot of green shades so this is a great addition to my collection. A great color for fall and perfect to make green smokey eyes with. That girl from the blog was right, buy this!
