NYC City Samba Summer Collection

Hello my lovely readers,

NYC has a new collection in stores; the City Samba Summer Collection. Here in the Netherlands this collection consists out of products that aren't all new but are all added to the permanent collection. In America (I think) however, some new products and shades are new. The Sun N' Bronze Bronzing Powders look amazing but those aren't available here in the Netherlands. The products that are available here in the Netherlands are still pretty amazing and I think the overall collection looks pretty good.
These are the three products I bought from the collection and I think all three of them are gorgeous. I bought two different kind of nail polishes and a lipstick. The 'In A New York Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish' in '350 Rooftop Party Berry', the 'Expert Last Long Wearing Nail Polish' in '269 Hudson Breeze' and the 'Expert Last Lip Color' in '441 Traffic Jam'. The red nail polish and lipstick are on the NYC website but the the blue nail polish isn't, therefore I'm doubting if they're all permanent and new.
I'm starting this review with the lipstick, the 'Expert Last Lip Color'. These lipsticks are moisturizing, comfortable and longwearing, at least that's what NYC claims. They're right on the first two points but not on the third point. The lipstick lasts for a decent amount of time but sure not for the six hours that the brand claims.
WOOW, my skin shows up incredible white on this photo, believe me I'm fair but not that fair. The lipstick however is gorgeous. It's a pretty fiery, bright, very pigmented red colour and it wears really comfortably. It may not last the six hours that it claims but it does stay nicely put on your lips for quite some long time. I think this type of bright, red lipstick works really well in the spring time and I think for me this will become the first red that I actually wear.
Than it's time for the first of the two nail polishes, the gorgeous blue one to be exact. I recently threw out a lot of my old nailpolishes because they'd dried out or got bad. Among those nail polishes (you'll probably see them in my empties posts) was an electric blue one that I loved. That's probably why I didn't hesitate to buy a new nail polish to add to my already too big collection. This is a beautiful electric blue nail polish that's beautifully opaque in two layers.
The second nail polish is this gorgeous raspberry red polish. NYC claims that these two polishes have different formulas but I don't really notice much difference. They're both really easy to apply and I even feel like they have the same brush. I also don't notice a difference in the duration or the opaqueness (is that a word?). This nail polish is also opaque in two coats and the color is just gorgeous, in real life the color is a bit darker than on the photo but it's still really pretty.
An that was it already for this review. Two gorgeous nail polishes and a lipstick that's equally as pretty, and all that beauty for some reasonable prices. The lipstick costs €3,29 the red nail polish €2,49 and the blue one €2,99. Three amazing products for amazing prices.

Satsuma Body Polish by The Body Shop

Hello my lovely readers,

After having one of the most busy periods of my life I had finally time to clean my room last weekend. I threw out a lot of junk but I also found some products of which I forgot I even had. Somewhere hidden in the mess that I called my room, I found this lovely product from The Body Shop.
This is the product I found, it's called the Satsuma Body Polish from The Body Shop and it's a gentle daily exfoliant. The one I have is in a little mini size that once came with a gift set I purchased for my mother (she doesn't like scrubs so she gave it to me) and it holds 75 ml (the full size is 200 ml). According to the Body Shop this exfoliating, foaming gel gently buffs away dead skin cells to leave skin soft and smooth. It has a zesty citrus scent. I sniffed, I tried and I loved.

Some of you may know that fruity scents are my favourite, especially citrus is heaven on earth for me. Therefore the scent is one of my favourite things about this product, it has a very strong mandarin (or satsuma) scent and let me tell you, I like it! This scrub will make your bathroom smell like an orange garden and your body like a big, fat, juicy orange. The scent of some shower products disappears as soon as you leave the shower but this really lingers for a long time.
This is how the actual scrub looks like, I had to look up what the scrub particles were and I found out that they were crushed walnut shells and loofah particles (I have now idea what these are). I also found the other main ingredients that make this scrub such a delicious product. It has orange essential oil to uplift, refresh and energize your senses (it also makes this smell so delicious) and it also contains satsuma juice. This juice not only gives the product it's nice orange color but it also is a antioxidant that helps to protect and nourish your skin. Another ingredient that make this scrub as good as it is, is honey. An ingredient that I did not expect at all since it doesn't smell like it. Honey is amazing in body product because it moisturizes, but I didn't have to tell you that I think.
Than you obviously want to know what I think of the actual scrub, scent is important but how well it works is equally as important. I really like the way this body polish scrubs, it's mild but it does the job really well. It also lathers quite nice, some scrub stay the way they are but this one foams up and I have the feeling I don't really have to use a body wash with it since it leaves my skin squeaky clean. Even though this scrub is more moisturizing than many other scrubs I've tried, I'd still use a body butter or lotion afterwards. Scrubbing is and stays a harsh thing and your skin still needs a little bit of love after.
I'm in love with this deliciously smelling body polish and I think this tube will be empty very soon.... The scent is perfect for this time of the year and I really want to pick up some matching products (the body wash sounds really good). I also think it won't take long before I buy the big version of this, it costs €10,- and I think that totally worth it!

Andrélon Surprising Volume Lif-Up Mousse & Hairspray

Good morning my lovely readers,

Hair, it's a curious thing, my hair is long, brown and pretty much lifeless. I don't really do a lot with it but I do try to give it more life and volume with different products. Dry shampoo and mousse are the two things I use regularly and were Baptiste is my favourite for the first product, the Dutch brand Andrélon is my favourite for the second one.
As I said, Andrélon is a Dutch brand and I don't think they sell it in other countries, maybe Belgium but I don't know that for sure. Andrélon has a few different lines for different results. My favourite one is the 'Surprising Volume' line (or 'verrassend volume' as we say in Dutch). This line is enriched with collagen and promises to make your hair thicker, fuller and more voluminous.
Every line has different colours and the colour of this line is green. It's a nice contrast with the purple that almost every product from Andrélon has. Both of them have a strong hold but they promise something different, not very weird since they're two different products. The mousse promises to give the ultimate volume boost and give you full and airy hair (I don't know if I can say airy in English when it comes to hair but I think you'll know what I mean). The Hairspray however, promises to fixate volume from the roots and prolonged volume.
First the mousse, my favourite product out of the two. This I use when my hair is almost dry and I feel like it gives my hair just a little bit more body and life. According to the instructions on the back of the product, you'll have to blowdry your hair into place but I never really do that. I rarely use heat on my hair (I only own a blowdryer and a straightener) and I think this mousse works just as good when you don't blow dry it.
Than the hairspray, I don't have a photo to show you the product since it's clear but I'm very content with it. Hairspray isn't a product I use regularly but I did use this one a few times to be able to give you a proper review. The nozzle (is that the correct word) looks very funny but it does work really well. Because of the funny shape I can really get to my roots and fixate the volume. Another thing I really like about this is the fact that it holds the volume I create really long.
I'm really content with these two styling products that have found their way into my life. The 'Surprising Volume' line has more products in it and I really want to try the other ones as well. The beach effect spray is high on my list of products I want to try. I cannot remember the price of these products correctly but Andrélon products are not expensive (they're sold in drugstores) and I believe they were around the 5 euros each.

I hope you enjoyed reading about these products eventough they might not be available where you live.

Catrice Glamour Doll Curl & Volume Mascara

Hello my lovely readers,

I'm terribly sorry that I've been away for a while but I'm very glad to say, that I'm back on full speed. My finals are over and now I just have to wait until the sixteenth of june for the results. Than I'll hear if I passed and if that happens (I don't really have high hopes for it) I'll be the luckiest girl in the world. Maybe I'll do an update on  my life at the moment but this is not the post for that. Today's post is a mascara review!
The mascara I'm writing about is a variation on my favourite one; the Catrice Glamour Doll mascara. Almost identical packaging, different want and possible a different formula. Let's see if this is just as good as the original.
This mascara has the same sleek curved packaging which I really like but there is a mayor thing different. The original had a black packaging but this 'Curl & Volume' one has a cooler metallic purple look! I like it a lot and it reminds me a bit of space, I don't know why, it just does.
More comparing to the original mascara! The original had a plastic straight cone shaped wand and this one is hairy, curved and bigger. Personally I like plastic wands better than bristly versions like this but lets not judge it before I've tried it. On the photos below you van see what the mascara does with my lashes, on the left photos they are bare and on the right ones I've applied the product. I didn't curl them or did anything to them.
Pretty great right? The mascara elongated my lashed beautifully and has made them black, just like I like it. I those aspects it's an amazing mascara but I still like the original version better because it separates better. Don't get me wrong, this one does a good job at it but the original version is just better.
Where I would give the original mascara a nine, this one would get an eight. It's a good mascara but not the best I've ever tried. For the price it's certainly amazing, it costs €3,99. Just as expensive as the original one and if I had to choose I'd pick the original glamour doll mascara.

Victoria's Secret Pure Seduction Fragrance Mist

Hello my lovely readers,

A few weeks ago I was at the Dutch drugstore called Etos and I couldn't believe my eyes. Did they seriously have some things from Victoria's Secret? Here in the Netherlands we don't have Victoria's Secret store and I had never seen there products (both bra's and beauty) anywhere else.
Etos had three different versions of this fragrance mist. A yellow, blue and this pink one. I smelled them all and I instantly fell in love with the pink 'Pure Seduction' scent. This scent not called that way for nothing, if I had to describe this in one word, that word would be sexy. This fruity flowery fragrance mist consists out of red plum and freesia and is infused with aloe vera to condition the skin and chamomile for a calming effect.

The bottle is absolutely gorgeous but doesn't photograph well. I took quite a lot of photos but the only one that was nice enough is the one you see on the photo above. Sometimes products are just like people, some of them just don't look good on photos.

Ever since I got this big bottle (250 ml), I've been using it. The scent is amazing and even though it's a warm scent, this is the perfect evening spring/summer scent. I bought this bottle for €10,- at, like I said, Etos. I have no idea if it's still available but if you're here in the Netherlands and want to get your hands on something from VS, than this might be one of the few changes you'll get.

Rimmel 60 Seconds Colour Rush Nail Collection By Rita Ora: 323 Don't Be Shy

Good afternoon my lovely readers,

My post is a little bit late but that's still better then nothing right? I just finished a horrible art exam (all about a Dutch folk singer, Kirchner, the second world war, dracula, opera and ballet) and now I need something to take my mind of it. That's why I'm writing this post and when I'm finished I'm going to practice my German exams, isn't my life fun?
A while ago a Dutch drugstore had a 1+1 sale on all nail polish and I finally allowed myself to purchase some new nail polishes. One of the four I got is from Rimmel's new line by Rita Ora in the shade '323 Don't be shy'.
They had only six shades at my drugstore and the ones I really wanted (the mint and the white one) weren't available there. I still wanted to try these polishes and the fact that Rita is on the packaging made me wanna own at least one of these. The shade I went for is very save but it is a colour that I usually wear a lot, just a simple pink.
Excuse me for my horrible nails, but ever since I got my new job (I work at a Dutch drugstore) my nails break and my cuticles are exceptionally dry from all the cardboard boxes. This nail polish is a beautiful hot pink color with a blue undertone, my favourite kind of pink. It's completely opaque in two layers and the brush is rounded at the end which makes it really easy to apply your nail polish correct.
The Rimmel 60 Seconds Colour Rush Nail Collection By Rita Ora is currently available at most drugstores that carry Rimmel and these nail polishes cost €3,99 a piece and they come in 12 shades.

  • Lose Your Lingerie
  • Raw As Night
  • Don't Be Shy
  • Let's Get Nude
  • Midnight Rendezvous
  • Hot White Love (want)
  • Blindfold Me Blue
  • Pillow Talk (want)
  • Do Not Disturb
  • Breakfast In Bed
  • Rita Rouge
  • Oragasm (great name)
The collection also contains 5 Lasting Finish Colour Rush Balms that I haven't tried yet but really want to. Maybe when Rimmel goes on sale again....

Dove Beauty Blossom Nourishing Body Lotion

Hello my lovely readers,

I predicted it a while ago and last Wednesday it happened, I wasn't able to post and I'm very sorry for it but I was too busy with school. Today however, I do have a new post/review for you. Last year I reviewed two products of the Dove Beauty Blossom line (read that review here) and this year I'm reviewing the other product from this summer line. Last year I reviewed the shower wash and body cream and this year I bought the body lotion.
This body lotion is, like I said, from the 'Beauty Blossom' line. This is a limited line from Dove that was released last year and has returned this year. All three products have the 'Deep Care Complex', this basically means that they're very moisturizing. The body lotion is perfect for all skin types.
The beauty blossom line smells like white blossom and I personally think it's smells amazing. Last year I was a big fan of the products I used and I think this body lotion will become a huge favourite this spring and summer.
The body lotion is very liquid but doesn't slip of your body when you apply it and sinks really fast into your skin. I've used it for two weeks non-stop now and I'm really happy with the result. My skin is softer and the red bumps I always have on my legs are almost completely gone.I did use it every day (which is a record for me, I wanted to review it really well) and I noticed it really helped my skin.
This will for sure become a favourite this spring and summer and I hope you enjoyed reading my review as much as I enjoy the product. You can buy this body lotion (and the other products from the beauty blossom line) for €7,11 but it on sale on a lot of stores for approximately 4 euros.

MAC Retro Matte Lipstick Flat Out Fabulous

Hello my lovely readers,

I did something naughty, I'm currently saving money for my trip to London in August but when I was a MAC counter with one of my friend I couldn't withhold myself and purchased something. MAC is not the most expensive brand but it's still not cheap either. Here in the Netherlands a MAC lipstick (which is the product I bought) costs €18,50 which is approximately $25. I believe that they only cost $15 dollars in America. That's 10 dollars cheaper, life is just not fair!
The lipstick I went for is called 'Flat Out Fabulous' from the Retro Matte line (is this how you name the different types of lipstick?).
The lipsticks come just like all MAC products in a little black box with white letters. I even got a little Clinique sample at the counter.
The packaging of the regular MAC is black with little teeny tiny silver dots that remind me of stars. I think the packaging looks very sleek and the silver details give it a very luxurious feel. The only thing I don't like is the fact that the lipstick doesn't stand very firm in the bullet, when I apply it on my lips the actual lipstick wiggles a bit and moves to the sides and this damages the lipstick on the back. I hope you understand what I mean to say and I also hope this is just the case with the Retro Matte ones because those are stiffer and last therefore longer.
Flat out fabulous is describes as a bright plum matte and I don't think I could describe that any better. In real life the lipstick looks a bit darker than on the photo above but the next couple of photos show the actually colour a lot better.

Isn't it gorgeous? I love this colour and the blue/purple tone makes my teeth look really really white. The matte finish is my favourite kind of finish in a lipstick because it usually means that it lasts really long. This one isn't an exception on that rule, I only have to reapply it once during the day. The one downside that matte lipsticks can have is that they can be a bit drying. This one does dry my lips out a little bit but it's not that it makes my lips flaky or anything. Just apply a little bit lipbalm when you remove the lipstick and your lips are fine again.
The add
I think this lipstick is really versatile and perfect for the whole year. You could wear it during the autumn winter time as a dark plum or during the spring/summer as a bright pop of colour, for me this is a staple for my lipstick collection. If you want a shade as this but don't want to pay €18,50 you could also go for '270 Matt-erial Girl' by Catrice (review), that lipstick is quite similar to 'Flat Out Fabulous' and I think I'm going to compare them for you in a separate blogpost.

Me.
